Help regarding what ? You didn't send any status update or even a small report after the meeting so we know what's happening. Yet you are asking for help.

deadline 10/9

"a small report"?!! we must be ready by 10 sep. and all the info on the bid page indicates the results of our meetings, with the library or with the sponsoring companies. Cairo group should have already contacted Microsoft for sponsorship but it seems that nothing happened.

anyway, sorry for bothering u with asking for help.

How can we know what kind

  1. How can we know what kind of help you need if you don't give us details ?
  2. A status report might be something like 4 or 5 lines like the commnt you posted above.
  3. And no, We were not supposed to contact Microsoft or any other company if we do not know details.
  4. Where are those results ?

7aba 7aba ya shabab, el3abo ma3a ba3d balash tet7'an2o ;). Anyway, Mido don't be angry from MSameer, he always has tough comments but he doesn't mean to shout wala 7aga. On the other side, we wanted to help in this Wikimania to be in Alex but didn't receive any updates from you or linuxawy. I know you do big effort to organize it but from where should we know any progress of anything. The updates u had out doesn't indicate anything, it just depend on our imagination.

So, in points:

  • What aggrement did you reach with Bib. Alex.?
  • What progress we reach, any agreements with any sponsor?

So get communicated more, we should be a team to make it true.

I'll work on the bidding page today and tomorrow, would like to see u arround :)

Thanks linuxawy for the points but I asking to make a real agenta with task/time frame/who gonna do that task. I sugesst to create a wiki page. We r running out of time. We have till 10th of Septemeber to get organized.

Well, it's good that some members are interested in support WikiMania Alexandria. I just want to add that I'm interested too but I can't come on Friday coz I have work. So, I would like to discuss the meeting agenda, adding suggestions and so online here and let you talk about that in the meeting and feedback us with results.

So what's your agenda?


some thoughts about things to be done

Well, let's make it into quick points:

  • Accommodation prices (for about 400-500 people) and how far from the library it will be (this year's Wikimania costs were about 40$/night per person).
  • disscus getting in contact with the library and check if they're willing to partly sponsor the event or offer us some facilities in the costs of hosting or so.
  • Current air flights costs from various places around the world, India,Japan, USA, UK, Australia, SA, etc...
  • Local sponsorship opportunities, like we said on the IRC, preferably it would be an Internet company particularly interested into offering a wireless network installed into the conferences hall that going to host the event or we will have to get this ourselves and add to the costs.

Additional info:

  • Time line for the bid process
    • August 15th: City contest opens officially
    • September 10th 2006: End of the first round. All cities willing to participate should have a bid in place. No city will be accepted after that date. Candidates may work on their bid until the 15th.
    • September 15th 2006: Shortlist
    • Sept 15th- Sept. 23rd: Shortlist candidates answer jury's question and finalize their bid
    • September 24th 2006: General meeting and final vote

These are thing I thought about, you can help by doing searches over the internet about hotels or sth if available. or talk to companys (TEdata, link.net, etc..) about sponsoring the event. u may help in anyway u want.

i totally agree with

i totally agree with mido.arch that these things are important.. but the first thing is to know who will be helping and what contacts do we have regarding such things, then try to distribute some tasks regarding the above points and arrange an agenda for the next meeting.. that's what i have in mind actually... p.s: work on friday ya ikhnaton? 3'aribah .. enta btshta3'al feen???
