Now in terminal we will

Now in terminal we will check & do something.

1- take a back from the file we will edit sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.backup 2- now we will edit the file using gedit sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf 3- If you find "Default Depth" is set to 16 then you will change the Default Depth from 16 to 24.

you will find a liner like DefaultDepth 16 change it to be DefaultDepth 24

4- Now restart your X server by pressing & holding ALT CTRL Backspace at the same time, that will end your current desktop session, either or restart the system and after that enable desktop effects if it didn't work please type in terminal again:

glxinfo |grep rendering

and post me what you got here again.

Seems that something is wrong with either your ubuntu installation or your xorg installation.

glxinfo is failing to even start which is not good.

Unfortunately, I don't use ubuntu so I can't really help.

Me and alienbrain were in Finland riding a car and we meet you in the street by accident along with Ramez Hanna ... wa anta ba2a maraby saksoka

the output of glxinfo is a

the output of glxinfo is a common error in Ubuntu 7.04 xorg configuration, that's why i asked to check the xorg.conf and i posted the solution if the error exist.

linuxawy's picture

to enable the desktop

to enable the desktop effects you have to enable your 3D driver for your vga card, that's why extend asks for the output of lspci so he knows what's your vga card, and the output of glxinfo to know if the 3d is enabled
